Roudtable Event

How we can best support and develop services that prepare Black and Racially Minoritised young people to undertake ‘work’ in 2023? Join our mission to empower young people from Black and Racially Minoritised communities in the world of employment!

Are you an advocate for change in the landscape of work? If you're a young person, employer, work in employment services, job centers, local authority, youth work, careers, or are an activist, this call is for you!

Ubele cordially invites you to a dynamic roundtable aimed at brainstorming and creating initiatives that help young individuals from Black and Racially Minoritised communities not only enter but thrive in the evolving work environment.

This event is a pivotal part of our collaboration with the Youth Futures Foundation (YFF), a partnership focused on building an evidence-based foundation for best practices in enabling sustainable employment for young people from these communities.

⭐️ Art Workshop in Brixton

upcoming 'colorful pathways' art workshop to be held on 22nd November 2023 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at 3space International House, Brixton, in collaboration with Black Thrive Lambeth, Brixton Project, and Dasl.

⭐️ Jane Hatfield Award 2024

This Award is an annual grant of £5,000 for a team of young researchers to investigate issues or topics related to community, social action and/or social justice. This year IVAR and Ubele are making two Awards of £5,000 for 2024 to support two separate pieces of research.

⭐️ Independent Creative Programmer - GLA vacancy

The Greater London Authority (GLA) is seeking an Independent Creative Programmer to shape the vision and curate the content for two events in 2024 & 2025 by building on the success of the first Black on the Square event in Trafalgar Square which took place on 2 September 2023 and celebrated London’s Black creative talent. 

The Greater London Authority (GLA) is seeking an independent Creative Programmer to shape the vision and curate the content for two events in 2024 & 2025 by building on the success of the first Black on the Square event in Trafalgar Square which took place on 2 September 2023 and celebrated London’s Black creative talent. The consultant is critical to realising the artistic vision, the curation, shaping and securing the content for these two Black on the Square flagship events in 2024 & 2025. The proposed dates are: Saturday 7 September 2024 and Saturday 6 September 2025. The content development process will include ideas and input from a Community Advisory Group, the GLA’s Culture & Creative Industries, Events and Communities teams to ensure the vision and the objectives of the Mayor’s commitment is achieved. The event staging and management will be delivered by a separately contracted production management company and is not in the scope of this brief.

⭐️ Our Menopause: Black women’s experiences and the implications for health policy

Dr. Yansie Rolston will be in conversation with Baroness Lola Young at the screening of Our Menopause.

This event will take place on Monday 20 November from 11.30am–12.30pm in House of Lords, Committee Room G.  

Dr. Rolston will share how she came to produce the film, how health policy needs to change and what the next steps should be.

Health inequalities exist throughout the system and this is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Black women’s experiences of menopause and how policy and practice can be improved in this area. Menopause does

⭐️ Tottenham Talking online Peer Community Reflective Practice session

The next Tottenham Talking online Peer Community Reflective Practice session. The sessions are for staff, facilitators and peers delivering services for voluntary and grassroots organisations in Haringey.

We aim to offer a space to reflect on what it can be like to work in a community facing project, different ways of working, challenges you are facing and help make connections with other community workers in Haringey. We see it as an opportunity to be part of a reflective network of people working across the borough and a chance to build a greater shared understanding of the work we do together.

The next session will be held: TOMORROW, Tuesday 14th November, 10:00-11:30am

Over the weekend explore the wonderful stalls whilst catching up with friends. The market has something for everyone and supports emerging entrepreneurs & new black businesses of African & Caribbean descent with opportunities to be more visible in the retail industry. If you're looking for food, drinks, gifts, cards, unique art, jewellery, male grooming kits, skincare, clothes, accessories and more come down! This market truly the community's spirit as well as supports black businesses. Come early to avoid disappointment.

⭐️ Grants for Projects Supporting Children & Young People's Mental Health

Closing date: 4 December 2023

The North Central East London (NCEL) Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Provider Collaborative is offering grants:

  • Inequalities Fund: Projects involving children and young people that address mental health disparities.

  • Early Intervention & Community Support Fund: Initiatives aiming to reduce hospital admissions for children and young people.

From a total fund of £1.5M, grants will range from £5,000 to £50,000. We're especially interested in projects that benefit children and young people with learning disabilities and autism.

Projects should be ready to commence in January 2024 and are expected to run for 12 months. Express an interest now to find out more
