We celebrated OurSpace launch together with forty-five guests, at a bursting Impact Hub Brixton. Participants were able to take part in an interactive workshop, explore and share their thoughts on topics including belonging, community change and gentrification. Stephanie Gamauf, OurSpace Co-Founder and Project Director said, ‘We believe that community business has the potential to drive real local economic empowerment. But this is only possible if opportunities are co-created by all. We need to have honest conversations about the inequalities some of our communities in Lambeth are facing.’
OurSpace is funded by Big Lottery Fund, through Power to Change (Sandbox Ideas Programme). The new capacity building project was inspired by local initiatives including Impact Hub Brixton’s Open Project Night and BUD’s leadership course Lead Positive Change. The aim is to create thriving, inclusive community centres that can support local people to grow their project and business ideas. For this, we will collaborate with community spaces Angell Delight, Yellow Cube CIC and Impact Hub Brixton over the course of twelve months.
In two weeks we will open applications for a unique leadership and community facilitation training. Stau tuned!
