One year on from the tragic night that Grenfell Tower burned for over 24 hours. Still the community bares pain and holds grief. As the 13th of June 2018 commenced to the 14th of June 2018 our community gathered together to hold a vigil. It was powerful and emotional- seeing those very same people you saw this time last year. The pain, the hurt and grief you could still see they carried. But the strength that  the community embodies allowed us to rise like a Phoenix in the ashes.

On the 14th the day carried on with many dedicated community activities and marches- all led and organised by my resilient community. The day ended with another silent march which prior was carried out every month since the 14th of July. It was estimated that around 8,000 people attended the evening silent march, to support and walk in solidarity with those that perished. As there are strength in numbers. The 14th of June 2018 was also the last day of Ramadan which led to the silent march ending in an iftar at St.Marks Park accompanied by beautiful poetry from the children of Latimer and donated iftar.

Some say, one year on there feels like closure. Others say when Justice is served  then there will be closure. But we regularly find ourselves confused and debating what is ‘Justice’ ? For if we have never seen it. How will we know how it looks like when it comes ? But regardless of the political issues that this calamity has. I personally would like to thank everyone that came to show their support and pay their respects to all the sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, and grandparents we lost. Thank you.
