Welcome Sarah Ebanja
We are delighted to announce that Sarah Ebanja has joined Ubele as our new Deputy CEO, effective from 1st February 2024. Here's some more about Sarah and her relevant experience, below:
"With a career spanning nigh on 40 years, my relevant experience includes senior management positions in a few London local authorities (Hackney, Lewisham, Islington) and in London’s regional government (government office for London, the Mayor’s office - the London Development Agency). Much of my work here, covered corporate leadership, policy & strategy, and corporate & frontline service delivery. The common denominator throughout was improving opportunities through education, socio-economic, physical regeneration and place-making including investing in and awarding funds to community-based organisations. Since 2020 my work has been characterised by sport most notably in my capacities as Deputy CEO of LDA and preparing London and Londoners for the Olympics; as Deputy CEO of Islington Council, being the lead officer responsible for delivering the £1bn Arsenal Stadium Regeneration project; and most recently as CEO of Spurs’ charity. I earned salaries from these roles.
My most enriching experiences have been through my voluntary work - governance roles, mainly in the not for profit sector and always about improving the opportunities and access for those living in disadvantaged circumstances with a particular focus on those of Black and minority ethnic heritage. My interest in ‘governance’ - how organisations made decisions started in my late teens, informed my decision to become an accountant and led me to my first such formal role as a governor of my son’s primary school. This was succeeded in my previous roles as Chair of the Stephen Lawrence Trust, Executive-chair of the Bernie Grant Arts, deputy chair of Local Space - a registered housing provider, and Chair of Newlon (Housing & Care) Group and Chair of College of Haringey, Enfield & North East London. I am currently chair of The Amos Bursary, a position I have held since we started 10 years ago. “
