Bayo is a space to find collectives, organisations and services from across the UK – run by and for the Black community – to support your mental health and wellbeing. Developed by The Ubele Initiative, Mind, Young Minds and Best Beginnings, Bayo was funded by The National Emergencies Trust and is run by The Ubele Initiative.
Bayo, meaning ‘Joy has found us’ in Yoruba, is a digital directory that hosts Black-led initiatives, community groups and mental health services. There are many people and organisations who cater to the Black community’s mental health and wellbeing across the UK and this platform brings them all together in one place, the first of its kind. We are seeking to elevate Black-led collectives, initiatives and community-run services already doing the work.
By bringing together Black-led collectives, initiatives, community-run services and mental health professionals, we can solve the difficulty of finding the right help, wherever you are in your mental health journey. As well as mental health services, we have included a range of social prescribing organisations. We understand that a person’s mental health is intertwined with their social environment and structural inequalities. The services listed are community-led, which means they are by and for the community and will not reproduce these harms.
