Recently I was left feeling really astonished as three things I had wished for actually manifested themselves within a six week period. Although one of them had been wished for two decades earlier, two of them actually occurred within a week of each other!
The reason why I wondered what on earth was going on in my life was partly because they had actually occurred so unexpectedly, but also because of the intensity and clarity with which they were delivered.
On reflection I have numerous examples in my life of clearly getting my ‘orders’ delivered by the universe , even though I am not always able to make sense of why certain things are unfolding in certain ways until towards the end when patterns begin to emerge and there is clarity that I am on track. A sister- friend of mine said to me on more than one occasion that I always set goals and achieve them. However, I now know that it is more about clarity in the messages that I send to the universe about what I want to occur in my life rather than the setting of goals.
Asking the universe for example, for certain people to enter in one’s life, such as a new person with certain qualities and attributes to start an intimate relationship with, or for particular thingsto occur such as securing a new job, travelling to a specific place or country, increased financial wealth etc., without knowing why one really wants this, when they will happen and not really considering what one’s reaction will be when they are delivered, can be more the way that I have operated in the past to say the least. However, I was reminded of the overwhelming power of the universe and some the principles involved in what is known as ‘Cosmic Ordering’ whilst reading the simple but effective book entitled: Cosmic Ordering in 7 Easy Steps, How to Make Life Work for You, by Carolyn Boyes, 2006. I have outlined some of the basic principles and concepts in her book below.
The three life events I mentioned earlier occurred between late June and early August this year. I found myself working in a university in Johannesburg, South Africa, visiting the Pyramids and Sphinx of Giza and experiencing a VIP day during the London Olympics, on Wimbledon Centre Court (six rows from the front), watching Serena Williams beat Maria Sharapova in the women’s singles tennis final. There was no doubt that these specific ‘orders’ which had been sent to the universe over a period of between three and twenty years ago had been delivered in spectacular style.
Watching myself in situ was at times just a little disturbing – this might sound strange to some, but I actually had an out of body experience one morning as I observed myself walking into the university in Johannesburg (some would call it a meta-analysis, others such as Sioux Indians call it eagle soaring), and once my body and mind had re-connected, I wondered how on earth this had this actually happened. I reflected on the fact that I had actually asked the universe for two things that were now being delivered – living and working in SA (I put in this order back in 2006 through setting what Martha Beck calls your W.I.G. or Widely Impossible Goal in her excellent book, ‘Finding your own North Star’, which I would highly recommend if you are planning transformational change in your life), and working in a university in South Africa (ordered approximately two years ago). Even though I wont go into the details of how this actually happened, needless to say it consisted of a series of what seemed at the time like an extraordinary series of chance encounters and did not manifest in the form that I had anticipated and only arrived after I had appliedunsuccessfully (as I did not get a response to my application), to a university in another province in South Africa late last year.
Similarly, for the past couple of years I wanted to go to Wimbledon and even applied, albeit unsuccessfully, for tickets two years ago. Luckily (I thought!) I had managed to book two £10 Olympic tickets for entry to Henman Hill for the women’s singles final, which meant that I would be in the Wimbledon complex, but on the ‘hill’ outside all of the actual courts watching the action on the big screen, soaking up the atmosphere along with hundreds of other people.
The universe however had other plans for the delivery of my order that day. On arrival, following up on information I heard on TV the previous week that some tickets were available for £5, once inside the Olympic sites, I went to the ticket exchange kiosk, and managed to exchange both tickets for an additional £6.00 (£5.00 for me and £1.00 for my niece) an upgrade to the first tier of Centre Court (there are five tiers which seem to reach up to the heavens). My 11 year old niece and I (along with about 20 other Henman Hill ticket holders) had been able to purchase last minute tickets in the Athlete’s Section of Centre Court. We actually sat three rows behind Andy Murray’s family as we watched he and Laura Robson, go through to the semi finals of the mixed doubles games before the main match of the day. My niece even managed to get her Olympic ticket signed by Serena after she won – texts and calls we received whilst there informing us that we were even picked up on TV – it was a truly unique, once in a lifetime experience.
My order to visit the Pyramids was delivered about a week before Wimbledon, when I was in-transit to London the day after the Olympics had started. I had to change the date of return because of the work in SA, and as a result had to spend a day in Cairo and take the evening flight – the earlier London boundflight was already full. As I checked into the hotel provided for the day by the airline, I overheard a young man asking about the time of his ‘trip’. I enquired as to where he was going and when and how he had booked it. I was informed that he had booked it at the airport and was going to see some of the other Pyramids as he had already visited Giza. The receptionist immediately offered to book me a trip to Giza combined with a visit to the Egyptian Museum. I had wanted to see Tutankhamen’s treasures and artefacts since primary school, and although I had visited Luxor some 20 years earlier, I had not been able to visit Cairo at the time and said that I wanted to come back. All this for $75US (£50) – a small price to pay for such an experience and I have photos of me in front of the pyramids to tell the tale. Unfortunately I do not that particular memory card with me to be able to down load them for this article – apologies!
I have numerous other examples where I have asked the universe for particular things to occur in my life and it has delivered in style. A couple of years after changing my consultancy and training business modelI felt I might become a bit isolated and asked for some interesting new people to ‘connect and play with’ , preferably in South Africa. Through a series of old and new connections I was introduced to Reos Partners http://www.reospartners.com in Oxford and then South Africa which has allowed me to explore and introduce a whole new dimension to my work as well as work in South Africa.
I have to admit that the journey towards all of these ‘orders’ being delivered, have not in the least bit been straight forward and have not simply dropped into my lap – numerous ‘plans’ I have made have not seemingly worked out, but one thing that struck me is that I have a strong sense of purpose and am often clear about what I want in my life (though not necessarily how to achieve them). I tend to seize opportunities, follows things up and keep going until they happen.
In her book on Cosmic Ordering, Carolyn Boyes outlines 7 simple steps and offers a series of practical exercises which help you identify what you want in your life, in what she calls her recipe for Cosmic Ordering which I can’t say that I have followed to the letter (as I did not necessarilyknow what I was doing until several years later, but opportunities, events, people, I wanted in my life would manifest!). My late mother was rather good at reading a recipe and then making up her own version of it, so maybe I have followed in her footsteps! Boyes says that for Cosmic Ordering to be effective, one should:
Boyes lastly suggests that we keep a delivery diary with the date of the order, what was asked for, what was delivered and the date of the delivery. She also encourages us to express gratitude to the universe and that being grateful ‘ensures that we learn and understand from our experiences in the material world’(Boyes 2006, p24).
For me, this blog entry is partly me updating my unwritten diary as I only logged the working /living order in SA on a post it note on my office wall in London (16th June 2006) – hence my rather sketchy recollection of exactly when I ordered most of them. It is also a way of reflecting on and recordingfor myself, Ubele followers. others including future generations what has happened and truly thanking the universe for these and all the other orders that I have witnessed consciously being delivered to me since my early teens!
